Rear Admiral Sandeep Beecha is an alumnus of Mount St Mary’s School, New Delhi, and Gandhi Memorial National College, Ambala Cantt. He was commissioned in the Indian Navy on 21 Jul 1986 after having served in the Merchant Navy for 4 years as Cadet and Second Officer (Foreign Going). A Navigation and Direction Specialist, he served as a navigator on INS Kirpan and INS Godavari. He was the Executive Officer of INS Akshay and INS Talwar and has commanded Coast Guard ship C-05, Indian Naval ships INS Ajay, INS Vindhyagiri, INS Rajput, and the shore training base INS Mandovi. The officer has also served as an instructor at the Navigation and Directing School at Kochi and his staff appointments include Joint Director Staff Requirements, Naval Assistant to the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, and Principal Director Foreign Cooperation, all at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi.

The officer has undergone the Principal Warfare Officers (PWO Basic) Course at HMS Dryad (UK), where he stood first in overall merit; the Staff Course at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, where he was awarded an Instructor grading; and the Naval Higher Command Course at Mumbai. He is a post graduate in Defence Studies and holds the degree of MSc in Strategic Studies from Madras University and Master of Philosophy (MPHIL) in Defence and Strategic Studies from Mumbai University. The officer has also served as Naval Adviser at the High Commission in London from Sep 2012 to Mar 2016.
