Jasjeet Singh Bagla is a physicist whose research interests are in the area of astronomy and cosmology.  His higher education is from Delhi University and he did his PhD at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) in Pune.  After post-doctoral stints at the University of Cambridge, UK and at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, he joined the Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad as a faculty member.  His love for teaching and mentoring young students brought him to IISER Mohali in 2010 and he has been working here since then.  He has an avid interest in education, outreach and science communication.  He has been associated with the Indian Astronomy Olympiad program since 2009.

Jasjeet has mentored a number of PhD students as well as BS-MS students.  The focus of his research has been in the area of galaxy formation and evolution, cosmology and gravitational lensing.  He has contributed significantly to development of efficient techniques for doing cosmological N-Body simulations as well as characterising sources of errors and limitations of these simulations.

Jasjeet is an associate editor of the journal of science education: Resonance published by the Indian Academy of Sciences.  He is also serving on the editorial board of New Astronomy.  He has served on various committees of the Astronomical Society of India, Indian Association for General Relativity and Gravitation, and the International Astronomical Union.  He has been a key contributor to the decadal vision documents for astronomy published by the Principal Scientific Advisor’s office to the Government of India, as well as similar efforts by the Astronomical Society of India and the Indian Academy of Sciences.  He has served as the chairperson of the time allocation committee of the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT) where proposals for observing time are peer reviewed and observatory time is allocated after careful evaluation of proposals.
