Mr. I P Nagi, Former-Director
Born in Ambala Cantt. Dr. I P Nagi completed his early schooling at DAV School, he pursued Civil Engineering from Govt. Polytechnic and graduated from Kurukshetra University. Alongside his technical education, his strong inclination towards sports drove him to earn a Master’s degree and later a Ph.D. in Physical Education and Sports. This rare blend of engineering precision and sporting knowledge laid the foundation for his distinguished career.
An accomplished football player, Dr. Nagi earned recognition at national platforms. He represented his state in the prestigious Santosh Trophy, competed in the All India Inter-Varsity Football Tournament, and was shortlisted for the Indian National Team camp in Delhi, highlighting his exceptional potential.
He began his professional journey as a Football Coach at the Sports Authority of India, working in Goa and Chandigarh, before moving to the National Institute of Sports, Patiala. There he rose from Senior Coach to Controller of Examinations, combining technical expertise with leadership. Over his coaching career, Dr. Nagi mentored numerous players who went on to achieve success at international and national levels. His pinnacle came as Head Coach of the Indian Football Team at the Asian School Games in Korea and Hong Kong. He also served over a decade as selector for Indian School teams, shaping young football talent nationwide. Besides playing in School Nationals, Junior Nationals, also played almost all A Class tournaments of the country representing different clubs.
Committed to global learning, Dr. Nagi attended advanced coaching and sports science programs at Semmelweis University in Hungary and Birmingham University in England. His visits to Austria, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark enriched his perspective on international sporting structures and methodologies.
Recognized for his leadership qualities, he became Director at Sports Authority of India, posted at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, India’s premier sports training hub. In this role, he combined administration with sports vision, fostering growth in education, training, and talent development.
Alongside coaching and leadership, Dr. Nagi has pursued academic excellence. He published several papers analyzing football, including detailed studies of FIFA World Cups, and now dedicates his time to mentoring postgraduate students, blending research with practical field insights.
Currently, Dr. Nagi holds multiple prestigious roles in Indian sports, including President of the Sports Performance Analysis Association of Bharat, Competition Director of the Chandigarh Football Association, and Chief Patron of the Football Lovers Society.
