Retired from the Indian Army as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Army after forty years of service, on 31 July 2017. Was responsible for the border defence with four countries, including the LAC, internal security of the insurgency areas in the North-Eastern States and strategic military engagement with China, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Orchestrated the military response to the Doklam incident with China on the Sikkim border in June 2017.
An alumnus of National Defence Academy, was commissioned into Skinner’s Horse, is a graduate of the National Defence College at Delhi, commanded a RAPID Division in the desert sector and a Corps in the plains of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. The General officer was trained in mechanised warfare in Odessa (then USSR), had a foreign tenure in Tanzania, is a trained member of Multi-National Planning and Augmentation Team (MPAT), USA and an alumnus of Asia Pacific Centre for Strategic Studies, Hawaii.
The General officer is currently involved in Track 2 Dialogues with both China and Pakistan; is assisting the DRDO/ L&T in the development of the Light Tank; is an Independent Director in a Company; is a member of Marshall Goldsmith MG 25 (India) for Corporate Strategic Coaching, and is accredited as a Distinguished Fellow with USI, New Delhi. He has given talks at various forums on strategic issues, written articles for professional journals and…. is an avid golfer!
