Former Head, Department of Music (Instrumental), MCM D.A.V. College for Women, Chandigarh

I was born in 1955 to Smt. Satyawati and renowned musicologist Dr. (Prof.) Panna Lal Madan. My formal training in music began at an early age, completing my first-year diploma from Prayag Sangeet Samiti at just four years old. Over the years, I pursued advanced training and academic excellence in the field of music, consistently achieving top honors.

I graduated with B.A. (Hons.) in Music and M.A. (Music – Instrumental) from Panjab University, securing Gold Medals at both levels. I continued to excel in M.Phil (Music), again topping the university with a Gold Medal, and later earned my Ph.D. on the topic “Swatantrata ke Pashchat Punjab mein Hindustani Tantrivaadkon ka Yogdaan.”

Recognized with College Colours, the Roll of Honour, and the University Colour, I was honored throughout my student years for academic and artistic excellence.

My teaching career began at Government College for Girls, Ludhiana, where I taught postgraduate classes at a young age. I later served at KRM D.A.V. College, Nakodar, before joining MCM D.A.V. College for Women, Chandigarh, where I taught for 36 years. I retired in 2016 as Head of the Department of Music (Instrumental). Many of my students went on to achieve top positions at the university level.
