‘Know Your Fauji’ Inspires NSS Youth on Martyrs’ Day

Chandigarh: Gyan Setu Think Tank, under the aegis of the Chandigarh Citizens Foundation, organised a Know Your Fauji outreach programme on Martyrs’ Day, with 75 NSS volunteers from Post Graduate Government College, Sector 1, Panchkula, participating in the event.The programme was organised in coordination with the Western Command, following approval from Army Commander Lt Gen MK Katiyar and Chief of Staff Lt Gen Puneet Ahuja. As part of the outreach, students paid tributes at the War Memorial, visited the museum, watched a film on the command’s role and Operation Sindoor, and viewed equipment and drone displays.

Caring for Elderly Citizens

In Sector 27-D, a pilot project has been launched for senior citizens above 75 years of age who live alone. The aim is to reduce loneliness and the lack of care. The Chandigarh Administration has started this initiative titled “Caring for Elderly Citizens.” A trusted network of resident welfare associations, mahila mandals, doctors, and volunteers is being created, which will work in five steps.

Against the backdrop of alarming mental health indicators, Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Wednesday inaugurated project SAATHI, a mental health and holistic wellness programme for school students, jointly launched by UT department of school education and Chandigarh Citizens Foundation (CCF).

Celebrating 75 Years

The event, titled “Celebrating 75 Years of the Making of Chandigarh (2026)”, began with a welcome address by Vinai Mahajan, vice-president of the Chandigarh Citizens Foundation. Moderator Deepa Gandhi provided the context for the discussions, setting the tone for an open conversation on urban planning and introducing the keynote speaker, renowned international urbanist Alain Bertaud.

A discussion on Lt Gen Shukla’s book ‘Civil Military Fusion as a Metric of National Power and Comprehensive Security’ was held at the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID), Sector 19, on Saturday. The book was released in October 2025 by defence minister Rajnath Singh.
