International Seminar on Ramifications of Emerging Geopolitical Flux in Bangladesh and Myanmar

On 6 February 2026, the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies at Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh hosted an international seminar titled “Ramifications of Emerging Geopolitical Flux in Bangladesh and Myanmar.” The seminar aimed to examine shifting political and security dynamics in India’s eastern neighbourhood and assess their implications for Indian strategic interests.

The seminar brought together senior military veterans, defence analysts, policy experts, academic faculty and students, civil society representatives, and international contributors, including Bangladeshi expatriate experts based in London and Doha. Experts from Hyderabad and Bengaluru also participated in the deliberations.

Discussions focused on concurrent political transitions in South and Southeast Asia, the growing role of external powers, evolving identity dynamics within Bangladesh, and the strategic constraints facing Indian diplomacy. Speakers emphasised that overlapping regional elections and political shifts have created strategic uncertainty and opportunities for external influence.

The seminar also examined India’s strategic posture, highlighting the need for a coordinated approach combining diplomatic engagement, military readiness, and developmental initiatives. Concluding observations stressed the importance of realism in foreign policy formulation, balanced with sensitivity to historical legacies and humanitarian considerations along India’s borders.

The seminar concluded with a shared recognition that India’s eastern neighbourhood has entered a period of heightened geopolitical complexity, requiring sustained, multi-dimensional strategic engagement.
