CARING FOR ELDERLY CITIZENS – PILOT PROJECT IN SECTORS 27 AND 28 CHANDIGARH THROUGH RESIDENT WELFARE ASSOCIATIONS (RWAs)
A pioneering initiative to care for senior citizens who are above 70 of years and who are living alone in sector 27 and 28 and to fulfill their daily needs by other residents and welfare organizations of Chandigarh
STEP ONE : To understand the needs of the elderly citizens, who are living alone and who don’t have anyone to take care of them.
RWAs to prepare list of senior citizens
Volunteers of RWAs to establish personal connect with elders to build rapport and help them understand the initiative
Trust building by volunteers of RWAs
STEP TWO : Survey of needs of elderly Citizens
A team Government Doctors led by Dr.Bhavneet Bharti, Director of AIMS, Mohali and other doctors of GMCH and PGIMER who have professional experience in taking care of elderly citizens to visit the houses and meet the elderly citizens with the help of volunteers from RWAs for interactions and find about their needs through empathic conversations. This team will assess the needs of every individual senior citizen, compile and them.
STEP THREE: NEEDS ASSESSMENT BY RWA
Thereafter the RWA will review the needs of each such senior citizen and make a plan as how to fulfill their needs. Needs can be social needs, health needs, needs to carry out some simple daily chore etc.
STEP FOUR: NEEDS FULFILMENT BY RWA & CCF
CCF and RWAs to make plans for arranging volunteers, NGOS, Healthcare professionals, welfare organizations to fulfill the needs of the elderly citizens in a planned and regulated way that is trusted by the elderly citizens
