Suresh Arora, IPS (Retd.), belongs to the 1982 batch of the Indian Police Service. He joined the Punjab cadre in 1984, at a time when the State was experiencing intense turmoil, and dealt with counter-terrorism, law enforcement, and governance.
He has extensive experience in dealing with terrorism and radicalisation in Punjab, having played key roles during some of the State’s most challenging periods. He served as the Chief of the State Intelligence Wing from 2008 to 2012, where he oversaw critical intelligence operations and strategic interventions.
Shri Arora later led the Punjab Police as the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, from October 2015 to February 2019, providing firm leadership, stability, and guiding the force through complex law and order and security scenarios.
After superannuation, he continued his public service as the Chief Information Commissioner, Punjab State Information Commission (2019–2023), contributing significantly to transparency and good governance through effective implementation of the Right to Information Act. He is also recipient of Gallantry Medal, Prakaram Medal, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
