Prof. Jai Rup Singh

A pioneer of human genetics in India, Prof. Dr. Jai Rup Singh served as Founder Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Punjab and as Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University. He is currently Honorary Professor at Panjab University and Professor Emeritus for life at GNDU. Holding a Ph.D. from AIIMS, his seminal research localized key genes for congenital cataracts. A Fellow of NAMS, IMSA and PAS, he has held major leadership roles, including President of the Indian Society of Human Genetics and Vice-President of the International Genetic Alliance. Recipient of the Mendel Medal and Punjab Government Achievers Award, he has authored over 100 publications. He now writes in Punjabi to promote public awareness of genetics.
