An alumni of the Chandigarh College of Architecture, he has more than 38 years of professional experience. He is also an Associate member of the Institute of Town Planners India.
He has retired after serving as Chief Architect, Chandigarh for more than a decade. Prior to joining the Chandigarh Administration in 2000 he had served in CPWD for almost a decade, working on wide variety of public projects.
He was also instrumental in preparing the Green Building Code for Chandigarh and was also associated with the preparation of Chandigarh’s Enlisted Heritage report and Chandigarh Master Plan 2031 and steered the qualitative aspects in Built Environment in a sustainable manner through new measures such as Codes for implementation of ECBC.He was convener member of the Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee and Board member of Chandigarh Housing Board, besides being a Director & Technical member of the Smart City Ltd .
He was Executive Committee Member of the Council of Architecture, a regulatory Body of Architects under the Architects Act, 1972 and Design Council Member for Modernization of Airports by the Minister of Civil Aviation, Government of India. He has been the member for the preparation of Manual of Practice in the Council of Architecture. He has also been Convener Member of the Committee for rationalization of Government Cadre of Architects in India.
He was one of the key member responsible for inscription of the Capitol Complex as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2014. He has actively participated in programs initated by the Government of India like the Smart City plan,Housing for all, AMRUT scheme, GIS based Master Plan etc. He was also associated in a committee on providing solutions for “Ease of Doing Business” through Online Building Plan Approval process by preparing Comprehensive Building Byelaws 2017 and Chandigarh Rural Byelaws 2017. Accordingly he had worked on Digitization of the entire record of the Department, launch of Website with all Public related documents to bring transparency into the Department.In his capacity as Chief Architect, Chandigarh, he had a big contribution in controlling all the Urban developmental works of the Chandigarh Administration both in public and private domain.
