Dr Neena Mehta has had a remarkable journey across various fields over her professional career, ranging from Biochemistry to Music Therapy. Currently a Professor and Head at the Department of Biochemistry, Rayat Bahra Dental College and Hospital, Mohali, associated since 2010. She has been assigned as Dean of the University School of Medical and Allied Sciences, Rayat Bahra University, Mohali; Dean Student Welfare, Rayat Bahra University, Mohali; Dean, Academic Affairs, Rayat Bahra University, Mohali; and Nodal officer, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), RBU Centre for Red Cross Studies over her professional years.
Born into a middle-class family in Chandigarh, she embarked on her journey to complete her MSc. Hons School leading on to PhD in Biochemistry from Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 1997, before completing her postdoctoral research from the Department of Biochemistry, PGIMER, Chandigarh. She received significant research experience from various renowned institutions nationally and internationally, including Panjab University, PGIMER, IMTECH, and Germany. Along with her scientific career, Dr Neena Mehta has undertaken multiple courses beyond her professional specialisation, such as a 3-year Advanced Diploma in French and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights and Duties, both from Panjab University, as well as Music courses pursued from Paryag Sangeet Smiti, Allahabad.

She has received notable opportunities to travel to countries such as Germany, Italy, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Japan, Singapore, and Indonesia to showcase her academic endeavours. She has also been awarded a DST Travel Grant to visit Naples, Italy, to attend a Tuberculosis Workshop and a CSIR Travel Grant to visit Salerno, Italy, to attend a Stem Cells workshop, both enhancing and deepening her scientific knowledge in the field.
Since 2014, Dr Neena Mehta has also been on her journey in the field of Music Therapy after attending her first Music Therapy Conference in that year at AIIMS, New Delhi. Music Therapy led her to be actively involved in learning music, now a producer and lyricist for her Bhakti Sangeet albums, Songs on Mother and Philosophy (in the form of CDs presently). She empowers children, women, and the elderly with her skills and compassion, while continuing to write poetry and lyrics.
She has numerous research publications in National and International journals and continues to guide PhD students through her impactful interdisciplinary research. In recent years, she has been invited to speak and has chaired sessions at national and International conferences. She has taken the initiative to organise conferences on Rehabilitation and Music Therapy as Chairperson in collaboration with the National Rehabilitation Institute, Chandigarh, PGIMER, and SABH Foundation USA. Her current research interests span multiple fields, particularly Biosurfactants, Bioremediation (Environmental Sciences), Tuberculosis, Allergies/Hypersensitivities (Medical Sciences), and Music Therapy. Currently, she actively takes initiative in topics like Allergies, Rehabilitation and Music Therapy.
She believes in leading life with compassion, humility, and dedication. Guided by the principle of loving and respecting everyone regardless of differences, valuing transparency and wholehearted commitment in both personal and professional life. Deeply devoted to her institution and work, she embraces multitasking and the idea that nothing is impossible when service is offered with sincerity and faith. She believes that life’s challenges should never weaken one’s responsibilities or commitment to work, and that true success comes from working with a pure heart while surrendering the outcomes to God. Grounded in strong family values, she also emphasises learning from the wisdom and experiences of parents as a path toward self-improvement and meaningful growth.
For social welfare, she continues to be a part of several NGO’s to organise activities such as National Rehabilitation Institute (Regd.) for Rehabilitation activities, Seminars, conferences and awareness programs, South Asian Behavioural Health Foundation, USA, Indian Red Cross Society, Indian Music Therapy Association (IMTA), Swar Sanjeevani Kala Kendra, Panchkula. She carries forward her mission of working for mental wellness, listening to the elderly, engaging with autism and disabilities, and helping underprivileged girl students by providing support and education and teaching musical knowledge.
