She has experience of more than 30 years in proposing, planning, organizing, analyzing and executing/implementing in various research projects/studies based on both primary and secondary sources which involved interaction with external stakeholders/policymakers including various Government departments/Ministries etc.
She has expertise in carrying out major empirical research studies in Social Sciences. Her areas of academic interest include Gender Studies, Urban Development, Urban Poverty, Migration and Slums, Rural Development, Education, and other Interrelated Issues. Her books on Chandigarh slums and Appraisal of Right to Education (RTE) Act in Haryana are widely acclaimed both in India and abroad. She has published nearly three dozen research papers and articles on different social issues in various books and academic journals of national and international repute. She has chaired sessions, been a panelist, delivered more than two dozen lectures and participated in a number of National and International Conferences/Seminars/Workshops.


Besides guiding Ph.D. students, she has held various portfolios at CRRID– Convener, Faculty Programmes, In-Charge, PhD Programme in Sociology, Appellate authority, and member of various committees like Ethics committee, Women’s committee, Publication Committee etc and now is the officiating Director at CRRID.
She was awarded National Scholarship by UGC during post graduation, Doctoral Fellowship by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), and Letter of appreciation from Director General CRRID for producing “excellent reports.” Her study entitled “Poverty and human rights issues in urban slums: analyzing the dimensions and mainsprings through case studies of Chandigarh” was selected by the International Advisory Committee, UNESCO as among the four best research projects from South Asia, the summary of which was published by UNESCO itself in the book.
