Chandigarh Citizens Foundation Organises Discussion on Contemporary Challenges and Solutions for Punjab
Chandigarh, December 22:
The Chandigarh Citizens Foundation (CCF) on Sunday organised an insightful discussion on “Contemporary Punjab – Challenges & Solutions” at the CRRID Conference Hall, Sector 19.
Delivering the keynote address, former Chief Justice of India Justice J.S. Khehar (Retd) drew from his personal experiences in agriculture and industry, highlighting the decline in farming due to depleting groundwater, outdated practices and lack of technology. Referring to his association with Ludhiana, he spoke on the downturn in industry and linked it to rising unemployment, migration and mounting debt. He also flagged declining education standards, the financial crisis in Panjab University and the drug menace as serious concerns.
Welcoming the gathering, Smt Vini Mahajan, IAS (Retd), Vice President, CCF, said the Foundation aims to promote informed public discourse.
Shri Ramesh Inder Singh IAS (retd) former Chief Secretary Punjab, warned that Punjab is at a tipping point and stressed on the need to utilise its advantages of excellence in human capital, risk taking abilities and social equity to bring back diversified growth and move towards balanced development of the state.
Dr Upinder Sawhney,Prof PU(Retd) emphasised innovation, social inclusion and community participation as key to sustainable solutions.
