CCF Organizes Transformative Workshop in Collaboration with Chandigarh Administration

Chandigarh Citizens Foundation (CCF), in partnership with the Chandigarh Administration, organised a significant workshop on “Cultivating Mental Wellness and Preventing Suicide Among Students.” The initiative comes at a time when rising mental health challenges among school children demand urgent and collective action.
The workshop brought together over 100 teachers, counsellors, and parents from Government schools of Chandigarh to discuss early identification of mental health concerns, preventive strategies, and the creation of emotionally supportive school environments.
Experts including Prof. Ajeet K. Sidana (GMCH-32), Dr. Krishan Kumar Soni (PGIMER), and Ms. Navneet Kaur (GMCH-32) shared insights on recognising warning signs such as anxiety, depression, and behavioural changes in children. Through case discussions, interactive sessions, and evidence-based approaches, participants explored tools for early intervention, resilience-building, and supportive peer ecosystems.
The second session encouraged open dialogue among parents, teachers, counsellors, and stakeholders. Participants highlighted the importance of destigmatising conversations around emotional well-being, strengthening peer networks, and enhancing classroom-based support.
Key actionable suggestions included:

  • Expanding peer mentoring and mindfulness programs.
  • Introducing regular mental health modules and coping-skills training.
  • Strengthening collaboration with mental health professionals.
  • Mandatory mental health training for educators.
  • Enhancing access to helplines and screening tools

Shri J. M. Balamurugan, IAS, General Secretary, CCF, emphasized that a core team of mental health professionals and other stakeholders will now work with the Education Department to design sustained, practical, and sensitive mental wellness initiatives across Chandigarh schools.
CCF, an umbrella organization of more than 200 professionals working through 12 Focus Groups, continues to drive impactful initiatives that enhance community well-being across the Tricity region.
