Prof Anand Kumar Bachhawat is an Emeritus Professor at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali. A former Dean and former Head of the Department of Biological Sciences, IISER Mohali, Prof Bachhawat works in the interfaces of genetics, biochemistry and metabolism and uses yeast and other model systems for his research. Before joining IISER Mohali, he was a scientist at the CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh for many years. Prof Bachhawat has a Masters in Chemistry at IIT Kanpur and a PhD in Biochemistry from Bose Institute, Calcutta University. He has had postdoctoral training at the Harvard Medical School, USA and Carnegie Mellon University, USA before joining CSIR-IMTECH. A member of the three different Science Academies of India, Prof Bachhawat also has a strong interest in Science Education and Pedagogy and in developing newer ways of teaching.
