Padma Shri. Shri Ramesh Inder Singh, IAS <\/u><\/span><\/span><\/h2><\/header>

Ramesh Inder Singh, is a 1974 batch retired civil servant of Punjab
\n Cadre. During his long career of 40 years in public life, he has served in West Bengal, Punjab and Delhi in the Government of India. He held many crucial appointments, including as District Magistrate, Amritsar during the turbulent period of 1984-87, as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Punjab, Chief Secretary Punjab and from that position, he took premature retirement from the IAS in 2009 to serve for five years as Chief Information Commissioner, the transparency watchdog under the Right to Information Act.<\/p>\n

Before joining the IAS, he taught Political Science in Delhi University. He is MA (Political Science), having topped Punjab University and is a law graduate (L LB) from Delhi University. He has also worked as a Consultant with the World Bank. He has authored a book in English, Turmoil in Punjab, before and After Bluestar and in Punjabi, Dukhant Punjab Da.<\/p>\n

Currently, he is a Director on the Board of Institute of Development and Communication, (IDC), Chandigarh, an autonomous research, training and evaluation organization working in the areas such as peace and conflict resolution, public affairs and economic policy.<\/p>\n

He is also on the Advisory Board of \u2018India Strategic\u2019, a monthly journal on Defence, Homeland security and strategic affairs. He is a founding member of the Chandigarh Citizens Foundation.<\/p>\n

He was conferred the third highest national honour of Padma Shree in the year 1986 at the young age of 36 years.<\/p>\n
